Les films cultes sont composés de scènes cultes... Retour sur Un Singe en Hiver, d'Henri Verneuil, qui a fait l'ouverture du 5e festival Lumière, lundi 14 octobre, à Lyon.
L'histoire
L'action se situe en 1944 à Tigreville (Villerville) sur la côte normande aux environs de Deauville. Albert Quentin (Jean Gabin) ancien fusilier-marin en Chine tient avec sa femme Suzanne (Suzanne Flon) l'Hôtel Stella. Albert, accro à la bouteille, promet à Suzanne de ne plus toucher une goutte d'alcool si leur hôtel échappe aux bombardements. L'hôtel tient bon, promesse tenue!
15 ans plus tard débarque Gabriel Fouquet (Belmondo) qui, lui, boit pour oublier l'échec de sa vie sentimentale avec Claire, qui vit à Madrid alors que leur fille est pensionnaire à Tigreville.
Les deux hommes, qui n'ont pas "le vin ni la cuite mesquine", vont connaître deux jours apocalyptiques grâce à l'ivresse. L'un va retrouver l'Espagne, l'autre...la Chine
