Îlz d'Oléron. Seconde Guerre Mondiale. Des batteries allemandes sont implantées le long des côtes. 35 soldats sovietiques, enrôlés de force dans l'armée nazie, y travaillent, astreints aux tâches les plus pénibles
En septembre 1939, une famille d'émigrés russes s'est établie dans le nord de l'île. Le hasard met en contact cette famille et quelques-uns de ces jeunes soldats d'origine soviétique qui vont ainsi se rapprocher des réseaux de résistance.
Les actions héroïques accomplies par ces jeunes hommes en terre étrangère faciliteront notablement le débarquement des forces de libération de l'île, le 30 avril 1945.
Ce recueil comprte cinq récits. trois d'entre eux sont l'oeuvre de Vadim Andreyev de Vladimir Sossinsky qui étaient exilés à Saint-Denis avec leurfamille d'origine russe.
Ils relayent les exploits de ces hommes courageux et fidèles à leurs idéaux.
Les deux autres sont signés par Leonid Prokcha, un écrivain biélorusse qui, quelques années après la Guerre, mène l'enquête dans différents régions de l'URSS afin de retrouver les parents et les amis de ces héros dont quatre sont entrrés à Saint-Pierre d'Oléron. Grâce à divers témoignagesz, il reconstitue le cheminement qui les a conduits à des actionsd parfois spectaculaires comme la destruction du dépôt de munitions de La Perroche.
Ces documents précieux, inédits en français jusqu'à ce jour, révèlent une face méconnue de la lutte des combattants de l'ombre contre le nazisme.
