Júlio Santana, bon chasseur et bon tireur dans son Amazonie natale, a appris la profession de tueur à gages à 17 ans avec son oncle qui lui assure que, s’il récite dix Ave Maria et vingt Pater Noster après chaque meurtre, il n’ira pas en enfer. Il note soigneusement sur un cahier d’écolier le nom des victimes, le nom des commanditaires, la date et le lieu du crime, ce qui lui a permis de compter 492 personnes au long de 35 années de carrière.
