Pour se faire accepter des tribus, se rapprocher de Joe Leahy et comprendre l'organisation sociale de la région, Bob Connolly et Robin Anderson ont séjourné plusieurs années avec leur enfant dans les Highlands et ont appris le pigdin, la langue papoue.
